Metropolitan Caloundra Surf Club have received a $15,000 grant for a new IRB motor and a new first aid room in the soon to be refurbished “Boat Shed”, thanks to a locally based insurance distribution group.
Envest is a national collection of insurance agency brands and broker services, including the Sunshine Coast based Envest Direct Agencies which sells 4x4, campervan/motorhome and tradies insurance.
Envest Chairman Paul Lynam was at the surf club on Friday to inspect the new equipment, future site of the first aid room, and took a moment to reconnect with his surf lifesaving days.
“I’ve been involved with the club since the 1980s and I know what a critical part they play in the coast community and lifestyle, so when I heard they needed some help, it was an easy yes from me,” he said.
Mr Lynam said the $10,000 for the new IRB motor was gift from the Ardonagh Community Trust, the charitable arm of Envest’s global parent company The Ardonagh Group. Mr Lynam is a member of the ACT Trustee Board.
“The Ardonagh Community Trust is our global charity, which raises funds through our networks and partners, to give back to communities where we operate and charitable causes that align with our employee interests.
“The Club and surf lifesaving were a natural fit because not only does it mitigate the risk for our community (which is at the heart of insurance), many of our employees in our Maroochydore call centre and our customers can now enjoy safely swimming at this beach.”
The additional $5,000 for first aid room was a personal contribution from Mr Lynam and his wife Chris Lynam.
Metropolitan Caloundra Surf Club president Brett Magnussen thanked Mr Lynam for the generous donation and the continued interest in the club.
“We are so privileged to have such generous legacy members, that not only dig deep in their own pockets but help our local businesses to make meaningful contributions back to the communities they operate in.
“The Metropolitan Caloundra Surf Club rescue area continues to expand and increase in complexity with the continual shifting of the Bribie Island passage, so this new IRB motor is a critical piece of equipment we will need to patrol effectively in the upcoming season.
“Having new, modern equipment and facilities will save many lives.”
