Aussie student wins Bright Future Prize through the power of coding and climate
Melbourne student Chloe McCormick is on a mission to empower the next generation to code a world protected from climate change with help from ACT (Ardonagh Community Trust) and Envest.
Chloe has been named winner of the ‘Your Planet’ category of the 2024 prize and awarded £10,000 to invest in her CodeGreen program.
Through CodeGreen, Chloe leads workshops for children aged 7–13 to teach them more about climate change concepts and solutions through the power of coding. Already, Chloe has taught 650+ students in and around Melbourne and has 37+ volunteers supporting the delivery of workshop sessions. With the funding from ACT, she now aims to expand the program across Australia and further develop an online portal so that even more young people can access the sessions.
Envest Group Chairman and ACT Trustee Paul Lynam and Chief Commercial Officer Richard Heilig recently met with Chloe to hear more about CodeGreen.
“Chloe has a very exciting future ahead of her. She is in year 12 looking to study engineering and law next year.
“Her CodeGreen program is a really innovative, fun way to start building change in the younger generations and I really think we can, as a business, benefit by supporting Chloe and CodeGreen to become a nationally recognised program.”
The Bright Future Prize is an annual competition led by ACT, the independent charity of worldwide insurance brokerage group, The Ardonagh Group, which Envest is part of. To date, through the Bright Future Prize, ACT has invested over £110,000 in young people around the world to empower them to lead change in their communities.
Chloe was one of the four recipients of the 2024 ACT Bright Future Prize, alongside winners from Ireland and Portugal and South Africa.
The annual competition is open to teenagers, who live anywhere The Ardonagh Group has a presence, including the UK, Ireland, Australia (Envest Group), Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Greece and South Africa.
